Mozza Sticks

Hotza Mozza Sticks

Tools you'll need:

foil, baking sheet with sides, cooking spray, dry measures, measuring spoons, 3 small bowls, mixing spoon, fork, sharp knife, cutting board, oven mitts, wire rack

Ingredients you need:
  • Cornflake crumbs 1/2 cup 125 mL
  • Chili powder 1/4 tsp. 1 mL
  • Large egg 1 1
  • All-purpose flour 1 tbsp. 15 mL
  • Package of mozzarella cheese sticks 6 oz. 168 g (8 per package)
  • Pizza sauce 1/2 cup 125 mL
What you need to do:
Cover the baking sheet with foil. Grease with the cooking spray.  Put the cornflake crumbs and chili powder into 1 of the small bowls. Stir until well mixed. Set aside.

Break the egg into the second small bowl.  Beat with the fork until the egg is bubbly on top. Set aside.

Put the flour into the third small bowl.

Cut each cheese stick crosswise into 3 equal pieces so that you have a total of 24 pieces.  Working with 1 piece at a time, roll the cheese in the flour until coated, and then put it on the fork.  Dip the cheese into the beaten egg until coated.  Let any extra egg drip off the cheese back into the bowl.  Roll the cheese in the crumb mixture until coated.  Place the coated cheese on the baking sheet.  When all the pieces are done, put the baking sheet in the freezer for at least 1 hour.

Place the oven rack in the centre position.  Turn the oven on to 450ºF (230ºC).  Lightly spray the coated cheese with the cooking spray to help it brown.  When the oven is hot, bake for about 3 minutes until the coating is crisp and the cheese is warm.  Turn the oven off.  Remove the baking sheet to the wire rack.  Let stand for 5 minutes.

Serve the cheese sticks with the pizza sauce.  Serves 4.
Enjoy!
